Unister has rapidly grown from a student's start-up to one of Europe's leading e-commerce providers. With more than 40 national and international internet-portals, and more than 10 million users per month39, Unister has a top position in the B2C market as well as in the advertisement market. Unister's internet solutions (web portals, web services, advertiser network) helping companies and customers to connect and perform transactions in different verticals. Well-known are the web-portals ab-in-den-urlaub.de (travel; leading position), fluege.de (flights; top position), hotelreservierung.de and hotelreservation.com (hotels), travel24.de and travel24.com (travel), auto.de (cars), news.de (news) or shopping.de (retail). The Semantic Web Project is the technology research group of Unister and will also perform the research tasks considered in this proposal. As integral part of Unister's R&D activities, it is responsible for identifying, researching, understanding, developing and evaluating new and emerging technologies, processes and e-business solutions that strategically influence the future of Unister products. Most likely this targets the future of the internet, in particular the Semantic Web and the evolving Web 3.0.
